On Thursday, April 14th, some armed men attacked a voter registration exercise in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to reports, the gunmen arrived at the polling station in broad daylight and opened fire on the people who were present.

Before the attack on Thursday, CVR exercises had been suspended in Orsu and Njaba LGAs because of insecurities. But unfortunately, an official of INEC, Mr. Nwokorie Anthony, was shot and in the process lost his life. Two others went missing from the incident.

On Friday, April 15th, INEC reported that they had been able to contact the two missing officials.

According to Festus Okoye, chairman of INEC’s information and voter education committee, the commission has decided to further suspend registration in all 54 centers that were created for a better registration process. The commission says the registration will now be confined to their state and local government offices, except in Orsu, Njaba, and Ihitte Uboma, where the registration there has been stopped till further notice.
