Valentine's Day Turns Grieving Day As Thief Storms Adam and Eve Hostel
On Monday, February 14 which happens to be Valentine's day, a day meant for the celebration of love, a student's hostel along Ibadan road, close to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife was thrown into weeping, lamentations and grieve as residents experienced a cleverly orchestrated theft.
In the early hours of Monday, around 4:00AM-5:00AM, students were stripped of their properties. The thief who carried out this malicious act is suspected to be an individual who knows the hostel's environs very well, because of his strategic and well planned operation. The thief made his way through the back of the hostel's fence which was secured with barbed wire. He tore the nets of windows in seven rooms, slided the louvers and successfully made away with four phones. It was also reported that the thief stole a purse through the window but left it in the compound as the suspect couldn't find anything valuable to him in the purse.
The theft went smoothly as those who fell victim of this heinous crime were fast asleep when the thief carrried out the operation. The residents of this hostel complained that the hostel has been without a night guard since the previous one died on 1st of January, 2022.
When the caretaker was challenged on the issue, he stated that, "a new guard would be assigned tonight". He added that all the efforts made to get another guard since the demise the former had proved abortive. His statement is however contrary to resident's report that guards showed up to take the job but, the caretaker turned them down. When the caretaker was questioned about what he planned to do to the damaged things in the hostel, he stated that changes would be effected on the torn net and damaged things would be repaired very soon.
On reporting the incident to the Students' Union PRO, in person of Ogunperi Taofeek, he implored the affected students to come to SUB to report and write statements about the event. He assured them that the Union would work on it.
