ASUU BEGINS STRIKE!


The above statement is one that gives students in Nigerian Universities cold feets and a troubled heart. The Academic Staff Union of Universities in a lame man's understanding is the arm or union responsible for all academic palorama that happens in a university community. For the past few weeks different news platform have been reporting about the impending ASUU strike that is to happen.

 

Recently, ASUU OAU declared that the union is going on an indefinite strike as result of the unpaid Earned Academic Allowance by the school management to the deserving members of the union. 


However,the school management released a counter statement to the release of ASUU saying that classes are ongoing and that parents should disregard any information from a section of the Academic staff of the university but recent happening shows that some departments in the university have not been having classes while some have been cancelled by lecturers leaving the students in a state of disarray on what to hold on to. 


Any strike action by any faction or union in a university setting most times leaves the students or parties concerned with disrupted and disorganized calendar. The actions of ASUU most times are consider by students as insensitive,inconsiderate owing to the fact that it draws the academic calendar of Universities back making students spend longer years in the institution. ASUU on the other hand sees it as a fight to get the best for the education and academic Sector. Federal government on its own part is not ready to listen to the cries of ASUU because the country is in a financial crisis.


What beat do we dance to this drum then?


Till when are we going to continue to read screaming headlines about ASUU strike?


Till when will the student continue to suffer the disagreement of two factions?.


One is left to wonder what will become of students who have to spend longer time in the university environment without a sense of direction on what to do next.


WHO THEN IS TO BLAME FOR THESE STRIKE ACTIONS? 


FEDERAL GOVERNMENT? or

ASSU? or

THE UNIVERSITY CONCERNED?

Gas Explodes At Moremi Hostel

It was a normal Saturday afternoon until loud noises were heard from Blocks G and H flags of Moremi hall of residence, OAU. At around 11:55 am, there was a gas explosion on the 1st floor of block H. According to findings, the timely intervention of the porters curbed the spread of the fire. One student, who would like to remain anonymous, said, "The girl was just cooking in the kitchenette at the back of the room. The next thing I heard was 'gboa' and I saw fire. I was literally afraid, but thank God for the timely intervention of one of the porters." When asked where she was when the event happened, she replied, "I was washing my clothes downstairs by the tap, and I even poured my soapy water on it until the fire was quenched." Attempted Rape: Moremi Hostel Victim Narrates How It All Happened

It was supposed to be a beautiful Sunday morning, but not until the Moremi inhabitants were awoken from their sleep. Sunday, the 3rd of December 2023, is a day that Moremi Hall will not be quick to forget.   Recently, there have been reports of men invading hostels and attempting to steal. It took a different turn today as there was an attempted rape by a yet-identified man.   At exactly 5:15am, the screams from the middle blocks E and F threw Moremi residents into serious confusion. This scream came from Room E 203.   According to the findings, the roommate of the lady had stepped out of the room after feeling the urge to pee. She will like to be simply called Anu. In her words, "I wanted to pee, and so I left my roommate praying. We were only two, and she was awake when I was leaving; that's why I did not bother to inform her."
