OPINION POLL: ARE THERE TRUE FRIENDS?

We are in a generation where almost everyone complains about fake friends. With the rate at which people complain about fake friends, do you feel the world is full of treacherous, malicious and hateful people?

Friends are precious jewel that everyone must not lack but the question is who are the true friends?

Here are some of the perspectives of OAU students on the subject matter.

1. True friends are rare but once you find one they support you all the time an  caution you when you’re going the wrong way.

2. According to the adage, “a friend in need is a friend indeed.” Truly we can say we have true friends although rare. A true friend will correct you, not envious, happy when you succeed. One who will stick to you even when you annoy him/her. A true friend is like a sister that is ready to care and support you any day, anytime.

3. I really don’t know because I don’t have one. I was brought up believing that there are no true friends. Some true friends are not true.

4. Sure there are true friends but you only know by relating with them. How you relate with them determines if they are true or not.

5. Yes, indeed we have true friends. They give out time to check up on you even in their busy schedules. They carry you along with opportunities that will help in fulfilling your career. They are dependable and will always protect you in times of trouble.
      A lady’s perspective
6.There are no true friends. We only have two sets of people which are the “opportunists” and “those who need something/wants to take advantage of you.” Only our parents can be said to be true to us. People will surely disappoint you. Note that the fact that people like you for who you are does not mean they are your true friends; never make that mistake.

By The Icons Organization and Indy Press  For Deborah, a 100-level student and resident of Obafemi Awolowo Hall of residence, University of Ibadan, staying in her hall of residence was a choice she made because she was in her first year of study. She believed this choice was the safest way to get familiar with the school and its environment. Posi, another student, on the other hand, resides in a school hostel due to proximity. “I stay in Obafemi Awolowo Hall of Residence because of its proximity to classes; the fact that it is cheaper, it is less stressful than house hunting, and much safer than staying outside school,” Posi explained.  Posi's reason for staying in Obafemi Awolowo Hall is the same as that of many students who find themselves in public hostels — it is often cheaper and closer to school. Fresher's Week'24: Students' Union Holds Freshers Inter-Faculty Debate

By  Adetunji Oluwafemi The Great Ife Students’ Union on Monday, 3rd November 2024, held its planned inter-faculty debate for freshmen. The debate is part of the events that have been prepared for Fresher’s Week 2024. The event experienced a slight delay, as the venue was moved from the 1000-seater to Oduduwa Hall by the order of the school management, which requested that the initial venue be vacated because the office of the Vice President, responsible for the event, failed to seek permission before using it. The event began at 12:35 PM. Faculties were paired and assigned topics: the Faculty of Administration and Science had the topic "Corrupt Democracies are Preferable to Dictatorships"; the Faculty of Agriculture and Dentistry debated on the topic "Subsidy is a Necessary Compromise of the Government, and Should be Implemented in Areas of Essential Public Domains"; the Faculty of Arts and Technology had the topic "Civil Disobedience is a Moral Wea...
