               Oluwafemi Adetunji  One of the most popular timeless African proverbs — “he who has a head has no cap, while the one who has the cap has no head” perfectly mirrors the ugly realities of the undergraduate students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, particularly their struggles for the limited hostel accommodation. It is no news to the students that securing a bedspace in the OAU undergraduate hall of residence is no right but a privilege, as accommodation is allocated through an online balloting system on a “first come, first served” basis, allowing only the fastest fingers often aided by stable internet connections, to stand a chance of being granted accommodation. Great Ife Students'Union Warns Students Trading Bedspaces At Exorbitant Prices And Illegal Transfer

       Ezekiel Ogunniyi  The Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has issued a stern warning to students against the illegal sale or transfer of allocated bedspaces at exorbitant prices. In a statement released on Thursday, 30th October, and signed by the Union’s President, Adelani David Oluwatodimu (Itabi); Secretary-General, Habeeb Oke Isa (Opeyemi); and Public Relations Officer, Oreoluwa Joseph Olowosile (Wà á là), the Union described the practice as “disturbing” and exploitative. According to the Union, some students have been engaging in the black-market trading of bedspaces officially allocated by the Division of Students’ Affairs, often at inflated prices that take advantage of those still struggling to secure accommodation.
