IPOB Advocate a Sovereign State of Biafra

In a statement issued by the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed during a press conference in Lagos on Sunday, 17th September, 2017 that the Indigenous People of Biafra is being sponsored by those who he referred to as the coalition of the politically disgruntled and treasury looters because sponsoring the group to destabilize the country and trigger chaos will aid the realization of their ambition to escape justice which will grant them the freedom to dip their hands into the nation's treasury again.
But IPOB's spokesman, Emma Powerful reacted to this claim by the Minister of Information and Culture in Sunday PUNCH that the group was not sponsored by any politician; adding that the group had resisted and rebuffed moves by some anonymous politicians to take over the group.
" No single individual or group, including politicians, has the power to sponsor IPOB and the struggle for Biafra independence." He reiterated.
On Monday, 18th September, 2017, Senate President , Senator Bukola Saraki had condemned the Nigerian Military following a declaration that the Indigenous People of Biafra is a terrorist organization as unconstitutional. In a statement by the Senate President on Monday, he said the National Assembly will investigate the crisis in the South-East.
"I also wish to state that the announcement of the proscription of the group known as Indigenous People of Biafra by Governors of the South-East states and the categorization of the group as a terrorist organization by the Nigerian military are unconstitutional and do not follow due process." Said Senator Bukola Saraki.
Furthermore, the Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in a recent interview with the NewsweekMagazine had advised President Muhammadu Buhari to negotiate with their leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu to curb the secessionist agitations instead of the deployment of soldiers in the South-East.
However, the Indigenous People of Biafra made it clear today that no amount of intimidation would make it surrender its fight for an independent Biafra Nation. It maintained that only a referendum to determine a sovereign state of Biafra would assuage the group.
In a statement by the IPOB's media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, said he wondered why the Fulani herdsmen that had several times wreaked havoc in different part of the country had not been declared a terrorist organization, accusing the Federal Government of having a secret agenda to exterminate the Igbo race.
