The Great Ife Leadership Debate titled 'The Podium' kick-started today, April 8, 2025, at around 2:30PM with the faculties' debate. 'The Podium' is a competition for both faculties and halls of residence.

The faculties' debate came first today, featuring the fourteen faculties at Obafemi Awolowo University, with one faculty contesting against another: Faculty of Technology vs Faculty of Computing Science: (The NELFUND loan scheme, a step in the right direction). Faculty of Pharmacy vs Faculty of Agriculture: (Should traditional institutions be integrated into the modern governance framework?). Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences vs Faculty of Administration: (The feminist movement in the 21st century: Healthy or toxic?). Faculty of Clinical Sciences vs Faculty of Social Sciences: (Is federal character an effective tool for national integration?). Faculty of Law vs Faculty of Science - (Price Control in Nigeria: A Futile Venture?). Faculty of EDM vs Faculty of Arts - (Capital Punishment in the 21st Century: Relevant or Obsolete?). Faculty of Dentistry vs Faculty of Education - (Students' Unions in Africa: Puppets or Revolutionaries?).

The moderator explained that each faculty has two speakers: a Chief Speaker and a Supporting Speaker. Each speaker had five minutes to present.

The first speaker was the Chief Speaker of the Faculty of Technology. Contesting faculties were given different topics to debate, with one side supporting and the other side opposing the topic. Students from various faculties came to support and encourage their representatives. The Students' Union executives were present.

The atmosphere of the event was filled with various views from the opposing and supporting perspectives of each faculty. The day continued with the usual features of the debate until it was time for the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and the Faculty of Social Science to debate, at which point there was a change. The two faculties had to support the motion, and they were judged based on this.

The debate came to an end at about 6:20PM when the Chief Judges provided some remarks and announced the results of the debate. The atmosphere was tense as the faculties eligible for the next stage were announced. The faculties that qualified for the next stage are: Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Clinical Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Administration, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Science, which was the best loser.
