Inside OAU: Constant Issues Faced by Students Regarding LIB001 Results

By Eniola Adeyeye
The LIB 001 course is an essential course  that students are required to complete as part of their academic curriculum. However, students have consistently faced issues related to the release, accuracy, and accessibility of their results. These challenges cause frustration, affect academic progress, and raise concerns about the transparency of the results management process.

The issues surrounding the LIB 001 results have exposed significant challenges students face in their academic journeys, including delays in result releases, missing scores, and inadequate support from administration. These problems have led to frustration, anxiety, and uncertainty among students

Students Share their Ordeals
Olatilu Peace Inioluwa, a student of Broadcast Journalism, reported her challenges with LIB 001 for the 2023/2024 session. "Only my test score was recorded for LIB 001, and my final result was not released. I reported the issue to the person in charge, who collected my matriculation number and assured me that it would be resolved. However, despite my follow-up, my result is still unavailable, and I have received no updates."

Adeshina Barakat Ibidun, spoke about her own challenge concerning the LIB 001 result for the 2021/2022 session. "I have no idea why my LIB 001 result hasn't been uploaded yet. I went to the lecturer's office to complain, and he simply told me that they are working on it. Since then, I haven't received any updates, and my result remains unavailable," she explained.

Oguntola Moyinoluwa, a Part 3 student from the Department of English, stated, "I am not given any reason for not seeing my result, and when the LIB 001 results were released in 2023, we were asked to submit our course forms. Even though I had not fully resumed at the time, I traveled to Ife just to submit mine." She proceeded by explaining that, despite this, the results were not released. She said, "When we complained, the lecturer in charge told us that we had submitted the course forms to the wrong place and that nothing could be done. I later realized that many students in my department faced the same issue. We repeatedly went to the department, hoping for a solution, but nothing changed."

Moyinoluwa proceeded by saying, "Eventually, we involved our HOD, and since then, we have submitted our names and matriculation numbers repeatedly, with the promise that the issue would be fixed. Now, I am in my third year, still struggling with a course that does not even count toward my CGPA."

Akinyemi Joshua, a student in Mass Communication, also complained. He said, "After checking my LIB 001 result, I noticed that while my exam score had been recorded, my test score was completely missing. Concerned about the impact this could have on my final grade, I immediately reported the issue to our class representative, expecting it to be addressed.Despite bringing it to their attention, there has been no follow-up or resolution. To date, my test score remains unrecorded, and I have received no explanation or update regarding the issue."

Oyelete Bukola provided an account of his challenges regarding the LIB 001 result from the last session. "I have no idea why my LIB 001 result is missing, despite completing all assignments and writing the exam." Concerned about the issue, he informed his class representative, hoping to get some clarification. The last update he received a week was that he would need to visit the ICT department to lodge a formal complaint. "However, there has been no clear explanation as to why my result was not recorded in the first place," he explained.

Abdulsalam Saleem, another student, is unsure why his LIB 001 result has not been released. He said, "I completed all required assessments and the exam, yet my result remains unavailable. There has been no official communication or explanation regarding the issue, leaving me uncertain about what steps to take next."

I have not heard anything about it - Students' Union Vice President
In a conversation with Odediji Christianah, the Vice President of the Students' Union, she stated that she had not heard anything concerning the issue regarding the Students' Union's stance.

Additionally, as of press time, no response had been received from the coordinators of LIB001, as it was consistently stated during this reporter's visits that the coordinator was not available.
