With Less Than Three Months Remaining in the Session, SRC Finally Ratifies Committees

By Israel Bakare and Sinmisola Ajibola
The Students' Union Students' Representative Council (SRC) sitting held on Sunday, May 11, at Ajose Lecture theatre centred on ratifying the hall committees and nominating and ratifying members for the select committee, transport committee, security committee, and judicial committee.

As previously reported by the Icons Organization, since the inauguration of the current administration of the Great Ife Students' Union, the Transport Management Committee (TMC), along with the Security Committee and other relevant committees, had not been ratified, even though a semester had passed and the second semester had begun. Oladepo Oladele, the Speaker of the SRC, remarked that the meeting on May 11 was their first business session.

Before ratifying the committees, it was clarified that the interim security committee was operating under collaborative oversight from its volunteer members, as no single Acting Chief Security Officer (CSO) had been formally appointed. This interim model was adopted to ensure continuity in service delivery while awaiting full ratification, which will include formal leadership appointments. Nevertheless, the interim security committee is functioning as a team, with advisory support from both the CEC and SRC leadership.

The elected members of the hall committee were ratified. Ariyo Isaac Ojukotimi serves as the chairman of the hall committee, while Adesina Esther, the hall secretary of Alumni Hall of Residence, holds the position of secretary. The Inter-Hall Welfare Committee is chaired by Awoniyi Opeyemi, with Ikechukwu Precious as the secretary. Other members of this committee include Oladeyo Hawwau, Elisabeth Adefisoye, and Ojo Precious Aridunnu. Additionally, the Inter-Hall Security Committee is chaired by Osudele Precious, with Bakare Victor serving as the secretary. Other members of this committee are Tijani Oyindamola, Akinola John, and Owoeyo Peace.

Furthermore, 11 members were nominated and ratified for the Judicial commission. These individuals include Favour Adeago, Olasupo Taofeekat (Clerk), Justice Lawrence (Registrar), comrade Adebayo, Michael Abayomi, Ajiboye Jeremiah Adelunle, Akeem Azeez, Oladejo Favour, Hon. Oreoluwa Olamide, Shoyonbo Oluwabukunmi and Babalotan Ifeoluwa and Adebayo Hammed.

The Select Committee has been ratified, with the following members: Shodamola Ademola (Chairman), Ogunleye Adelani (Secretary), Sodiq Ajao (Public Relations Officer), Hon. Adeleye, Hon. Ajulo, Hon. Olakunle, Hon. Anifa, Hon. Ayonimofe, and Hon. Olujuyigbe Jeremiah, among others. The Select Committee has been tasked with reporting back to the House by Tuesday at the latest, to ensure the budgets for various committees, including the Press Committee and the Academic Committee, are ratified.

For the Transport Management Committee, seven members have been nominated and ratified: Fatoyinbo Azeez (Chairman), Adewoyin Feranmi (General Secretary), Akindele Oluwapelumi (Public Relations Officer), Olateru Olagbegi, Oluwasegun Glory, Adebisi Adeyinka, and Ajetomobi Praise.

The last committee to be ratified was the Security Committee. Fourteen volunteers who have been fulfilling their responsibilities were acknowledged. They include: AbdulRoheem Arogundade (Chief Security Officer), Oyediran Uthman (General secretary), Awonuga Adegboyega Idris, Timothy Festus, Adelumo Festus, Olayinka Tabitha, Mustapha Shindara (Financial Secretary), Olasupo Akinola, Amosun Opeyemi (PRO), Doherty Olayiwola (Deputy Chief Security Officer 2) Shuaib Musab (Deputy Chief Security Officer 1), and Sanyaolu Omotayo.

Numerous deliberations and arguments arose regarding significant issues concerning the Security Council, such as the sexual harassment allegation involving a volunteer from the committee and an incident in which one of the volunteers allegedly assaulted someone in Angola, among other matters.

After extensive discussions, thirteen out of the fourteen volunteers were ratified, while Sanyaolu Omotayo's case of alleged assault and departmental level impeachment claims has already been referred to the Judicial Committee. The committee's verdict will determine whether he remains a member of the Security Committee.
