Law Students Organise Awareness Walk to Raise Funds for Colleague's Urgent Health Needs

By Deborah Adeyemi
How do we know a peaceful community that loves to see the growth and well-being of its fellow human beings? How can we build a society where "united we stand, divided we fall"?

The Great Ife community experiences a gloomy atmosphere when one of its own, Miss Mutimainah Oladosu, is diagnosed with chronic kidney disease at Abuad Multi-System Hospital. She is a 200-level law student at Obafemi Awolowo University, "who has been ill for about a year," according to Yusuf Mathew Oluwarotimi, a 300-level law student and the Public Liaison Officer (PLO) of the class.

Subsequently, an effort to raise funds to support Miss Mutimainah has given rise to a movement among the 200-level law students as a whole. According to Yusuf Oluwarotimi, "the movement was the initiative of the entire sui generis part 2 law students." The movement was created to raise awareness and garner support from the entire Great Ife community for one of our own, Mutmainah Oladosu, who is currently suffering from acute kidney injury.
In the course of an interview with Icons Organization, Yusuf highlighted that the movement, titled "The Awareness Walk - #SaveMutimainah," was not initiated by organisations, institutions, or societies, but rather by her fellow colleagues with the support of the Public Liaison Officer (PLO). When asked about the targeted amount and how much has been raised so far, he stated that the medical fee for the kidney transplant is 40 million naira; however, 3 million naira has been raised.

Most importantly, the goal of the movement is to secure endorsements from various institutions on campus. The Public Liaison Officer (PLO) of the movement, Yusuf Mathew Oluwarotimi, expressed, "The family and close acquaintances have done everything within their power, but it has not been enough. We plead with the public to assist us by contributing to this cause. Mutmainah is a promising star who deserves a chance to live and unleash the greatness that is embedded within her."
