Lecture Free Week: Maximizing Your Time for Success
By Kehinde Ayodele
Lecture Free Week is a short break typically given for just one week, allowing students to reinforce their learning and prepare for assessments. How one utilizes this time can influence their academic performance and overall well-being.
To understand how students utilize Lecture Free Week, two students with different perspectives were interviewed.
Afeez views Lecture Free Week as a holiday and spends it accordingly. He states, "I do not panic; I do not like to stress myself, so I just sleep, eat, and enjoy myself." He believes that this approach does not negatively affect his exam performance, as he is always prepared and remains "ten steps ahead."
Olaewe John, on the other hand, a second-year student in the Chemical Engineering department, sees Lecture Free Week as an opportunity to study without the distraction of lectures. According to him, "Lecture Free Week is the time to cover all my books for exams and utilize it effectively. It determines how my exams will go. If I fail to read during Lecture Free Week, my exams will not go well, but if I do, I will perform great."
Every student has a unique approach to learning, and Lecture Free Week should be spent in a way that aligns with their academic goals and personal well-being. Whether taking a more relaxed approach or fully immersing themselves in their studies, the key is to find balance and ensure that the time is well spent.
Therefore, It is important to ask yourself:
- What do I need most at this moment—rest or revision?
- Am I confident in my knowledge, or do I need extra study time?
- How can I maintain a balance between relaxation and productivity?
For students who already feel ahead in their studies, using the week to rest might be a great option. However, for those who need to catch up, dedicating time to reading, revising, and preparing for exams can make a significant difference in their performance. Develop a study schedule, set achievable goals, take regular breaks, and don’t be hard on yourself. Just remember: "Stay disciplined, stay focused, and success will follow."
Ultimately, Lecture Free Week is what you make of it. Whether you choose to rest, study, or find a balance between the two, the key is to use this time wisely. Listen to your needs, plan accordingly, and stay motivated. Make the most of this opportunity and set yourself up for success!
